Forming an LLC as a Therapist
As an attorney, I have assisted many individuals in Massachusetts through the process of LLC formation. A large number of these companies, especially of late, have been formed by therapists who are looking to go solo in their own therapist practice in Massachusetts. While there are many considerations that a therapist must take into account when forming an LLC as a therapist in Massachusetts, I will do my best in this article to capture the majority of those concerns:
Getting the Actual LLC
There are many online companies that will assist with LLC formation. While working with online companies to obtain an LLC in Massachusetts is one option, many of these companies may or may not take into account the specific laws and regulations that govern LLC’s in Massachusetts. At a minimum, a Massachusetts LLC, if formed through an online company and not through a Massachusetts attorney, should have its forming documents (those filed with the Secretary of State’s office in Massachusetts) reviewed by a competent business attorney.
If you choose to use a business attorney to form your LLC for as a therapist for the provision of counseling, group therapy, or any other business services, the costs for forming an LLC are not prohibitive and comparable, in many instances, to those of your average online LLC formation company.
